In our kid’s social media world, a new breed of marketer has emerged: the influencers. Especially through YouTube, they influence everything from what lipstick to buy, to how to pick the best selfie. In fact, 70% of teens that that YouTubers are more reliable than celebrities and 88% of consumers trust online recommendations as much as face to face. Many of our youth have multiple influencers they follow. Current studies indicate that many teens would choose this as their occupation if they could. But as in a lot of things, the original is the best. Influencers who live day to day, eye to eye, and next to our youth will have the greatest influence: and that’s you. So know that mentoring matters, even if you don’t take selfies or make YouTube videos, your influence will be lasting.
